Who is Dr Bakes?

My name is Dr Leshmi Rajan. I graduated from Imperial College London in 2008 with MBBs and BSc (immunobiology) and completed my foundation training. I worked for 3 years in various specialist paediatric hospitals in London (MRCPCH 2012), including Evelina Children’s Hospital, which was an amazing experience.

I then took a career break to have my son and go to Kerala (India) for a year, where I learned the importance of a holistic approach. This is where I learned and developed my passion for meditation and yoga.

When I returned to the UK, I came to Cardiff where I completed my GP training in 2023. I still work in Cardiff as a part time NHS GP and part time baker!

Inspiration Behind
Dr Bakes

After my niece was diagnosed with autism, I developed a specialist interest in children with neurodevelopmental disorders. This also includes those with ADHD, Downs syndrome, behavioural and learning difficulties, speech and motor delay etc.

As much as I love the NHS, there isn’t enough time for me to address all the issues children & families face in a standard 10 minute appointment - I have so much more to offer!

I am able to communicate effectively with children of all ages to help them through the challenges they are facing in life. People with neurodevelopmental disorders face unique problems, both mentally and physically. Their carers have lifelong worries about their future welfare. My medical and personal experience make me uniquely qualified to help improve the child’s overall holistic wellbeing. I teach them the life skills they will need to become mature, independent and confident adults.

As well as baking, I also connect with my patients through music - I’m a grade 8 violinist, and passionate dance lover of Latin, Bollywood, R’n’B and classical Indian forms.
